István Harasztÿ


Bio: Born in Pestszentimre, 1934; lives and works in Kispest.
Profil: Kinetic artist, painter.
Card: Kossuth Prize winner kinetic artist, pioneer and most significant representative of mobile sculpture in Hungary. His mechanically and manually controlled mobile objects are constructive and at the same time, conceptual – occasionally showing ironic critic of the society. The basis, the starting point of his works is invention and playfulness. His basic materials are collected from completely different places (e.g. a flea market or the street) and he works with them professionally. His technological knowledge helps him present his age, brings 20th century progress, from holograms to landing on the Moon, close to us. His career has been rich in national and international rewards, individual and group exhibitions and scholarships. We can see his works at public places, in public buildings as well as in Hungarian and foreign private and public collections.
